New York, NY - As part of the cooperative PS-Prep training program with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), DRI International reports that on December 8, 2010, NFPA announced a critical step toward accreditation of its "Emergency Management/Business Continuity Professional Auditor Training Program" - jointly developed and sponsored by DRI International. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has accepted the NFPA's preliminary application to recognize the training program as one of its Certificate Accreditation Programs (CAP). ANSI's CAP accredits a wide range of organizations that issue education and training certificates to the U.S. workforce. Offered since November 2009, NFPA and DRI International's training program provides instruction on how to review preparedness plans, as required in NFPA 1600, Standard on Disaster/Emergency Management and Business Continuity Programs and DRI International's Professional Practices for Business Continuity. Successful completion of the five-day program and its accompanying exam is a prerequisite for DRI International's two auditing certifications: Certified Business Continuity Auditor (CBCA) and Certified Business Continuity Lead Auditor (CBCLA). The Department of Homeland Security / Federal Emergency Management Agency (DHS/FEMA) Voluntary Private Sector Accreditation and Certification Preparedness Program (PS Prep) - a voluntary accreditation and certification program that promotes private sector preparedness - requires that trained auditors working for certification bodies be accredited by ANAB (ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board). Receiving ANSI's CAP status will make this training program compliant with ANAB Accreditation Rule 37 and ASTM E2659-09 for training those auditors. ANAB is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization that assesses and accredits certification bodies (CBs) that can effectively audit organizations that conform to management systems standards. They are the federal accrediting body for the PS Prep program.
